Four things decide whether a twirl dress works

• The gather ratio is the product. The skirt is the bodice width multiplied, and by how much is the whole design. Too little and it hangs as an A-line; too much and the waist seam bulges and the skirt reads heavy. It is set per size range rather than per style — the ratio that twirls at 18-24M leaves a 5T looking merely gathered.
• On bamboo jersey the waist seam has to be stabilised. Bamboo jersey is dense and it drapes, which is what gives the twirl — and it is also what drags. A gathered skirt hanging off an unstabilised knit waist seam will pull the bodice down over a season of washing and the seam will settle below its intended line. There is a stabiliser in the waist seam so the proportions hold.
• The hem has to swing level. A circular skirt carries more fabric on the bias than on the straight, so a hem cut and levelled flat drops unevenly. It is hung before it is levelled, or front and back read different lengths after the first wash.
• A dress on a toddler is a movement garment. That is why the version with matching shorts sells: it goes to nursery and to a party, and the shorts match in the same dye lot. Worth deciding at sampling, because the shorts are a separate pattern.

Fabric and certification

Tanboocel® bamboo viscose is smooth at the fibre, breathable, and moves moisture away rather than holding it. It stays durable through repeated laundering, and it is the fabric that makes this dress drape the way the photograph shows — a twirl dress in a stiff cloth does not twirl.

The claim with a document behind it is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, Product Class I — the baby class, the strictest in the system. Certificate numbers go out with the quote. Vertical integration from fibre to finished garment, and digital active dyeing in-house, are what let a solid colourway be matched on a reorder rather than re-approximated — this is also what makes a dress, its shorts and its headband come out the same colour. Where an organic claim is required, organic cotton is the fibre that carries it; bamboo viscose is a regenerated cellulose fibre and is certified under OEKO-TEX instead. For garments sold into the US, CPSIA is the framework that applies; ask for the test report alongside the certificate.
